Rarely have I stayed at a hotel where the experience was such that I would seriously consider returning to that city just for the opportunity for a return visit to that particular hotel. Such was the case for me after discovering and staying at the Anise Hotel and Restaurant in Phnom Penh. For clarification, let me say that there is a ‘sister property’ in the city – the Anise Villa. To be clear, in this writing I am referring to the Anise Hotel and Restaurant.
The genuine friendliness of the staff and their concern that their guests are afforded respect and a convenience is unusual and lacking in many larger hotels. The Anise is not a large property, but it is indeed a pleasing one. The rooms are of various sizes but all are comfortable and well-appointed. The hotel’s restaurant is superb.
For me, the restaurant is a major influence for my strong affinity for the hotel. To begin with, its terrace is lovely indeed, protected from the hustle and bustle of the street by a wall of lush vegetation. It is quite comfortable with cushioned wicker seating. The menu is quite varied, surely something for every taste; and, it is very well prepared and presented. The daily happy hour provides excellent drink pricing. Room rates come inclusive of a daily breakfast which you may order from a menu, not a buffet. The time I spent in the restaurant was very much a high-point for me.
Indeed, each staff member with whom I came in contact displayed quite genuine friendliness and professionalism. It is quite easy for me to think that I just might visit Phnom Penh again — just for the pleasure of staying at the Anise once more.
